Teacher sick days overstated

Re: Taxpayers on the hook for teacher sick-day abuse, guest column by Rae-Anne Byerley, Apr. 13.
Seems like Rae-Anne Byerley is on a mission to misinform. Teachers have classes filled with sick children who have been sent to school by their working parents.
Teachers do their best to avoid becoming ill but are constantly fighting germs brought to school by their students.
Rae-Anne states that teachers only work approximately 180 days a year at six hours per day. She realizes some work longer.
In one part of the column, she states teachers work only nine months a year with three weeks off plus every holiday, every weekend and seven PA Days.
PA Days stands for professional activity working days where teachers attend workshops, meet parents, file reports and so on. These are not days off.
Then she says, “Not to mention also two months off in the summer.” Which is it?
Time to go to math class and learn from a dedicated teacher who is probably fighting off an illness to be in class with her students.
My Feelings: I think that being a teacher is great and all, including the days off, what i think that is hard for others to believe is, that teachers get so many days off, unlike other jobs that don't get this much off, and also get benefits, as well.
